UHV Hosts First Fall Fling This Friday
Victoria area residents will have a chance to kick up their heels at the first Fall Fling Latin Dance this Friday, November 11, from 8 p.m. to midnight in the Multipurpose Room at the University of Houston-Victoria.
Sponsored by the UHV chapter of Gamma Beta Phi and the Mexican American Student Organization (MASO), the event will feature a DJ who will play a mix of Latin music, including salsa and merengue, as well as other popular varieties of music.
Proceeds from the dance will benefit Texas Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), an organization that works with abused and neglected children in family court. Based on the strong turnout for Latin dance classes offered in September, Gamma Beta Phi and MASO members are hoping to raise a generous contribution for CASA at this event.
Also featured at the Fall Fling will be artist Ricardo Casas, whose paintings are currently on display in the UHV University Center building. Attendees will have a chance to meet the Rio Grande Valley artist from 6 to 8 p.m. and view several of his cubist influenced portraits.
The event is open to the public as well as UHV students, faculty and staff. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased through the UHV Office of Student Services or at the door. Refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Danny Ochoa at (361) 570-4149.
