UHV graduate new principal of Columbus elementary school

Prior to that, she also took the extra classes she needed to get her teaching certification at UHV.</p> <p>Her teaching career includes stints as a classroom teacher in Nada and El Campo and service as an assistant principal and a principal in the Wharton school district.</p> <p>&ldquo;I love being with the kids,&rdquo; Kallina said. &ldquo;As a principal, I get to be with all of them.&rdquo;</p> <p>Kallina said her UHV education prepared her well for all the different levels of her teaching career.</p> <p>&ldquo;UHV does a good job with teacher preparation,&rdquo; Kallina said. &ldquo;I tell all the young people who go there that they will be ready. It will be a good experience for them.&rdquo;</p> <p>The programs in the School of Education &amp; Human Development stressed confidence in public speaking and leadership, which Kallina said helped prepare her for her current position.</p> <p>&ldquo;Any enterprise is judged by the quality of the product it produces,&rdquo; said Mary Natividad, interim dean of the School of Education &amp; Human Development. &ldquo;Teachers and administrators, like Ms. Kallina, reflect very well on us.&rdquo;</p> <p>The UHV School of Education &amp; Human Development offers courses face to face in Sugar Land and Victoria, and many degrees entirely online.
