UHV graduate newest assistant principal in Houston school district

<table align="right" border="0" cellpadding="3" style="border-collapse: collapse; bordercollapse: collapse;" width="100"> <tbody> <tr> <td style="bordercollapse: collapse;"><img border="1" height="150" src="images/Uploads/7-9-2009/SaraDries.jpg" width="100" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="middle" style="bordercollapse: collapse;"><font size="1">Sara Dries</font></td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <p>The new assistant principal of Manford Williams Elementary School in Richmond is a two-time graduate from the University of Houston-Victoria.</p> <p>Sara Dries earned her master&rsquo;s degree in counseling in 2006 and her master&rsquo;s degree in administration and supervision in 2007 from the UHV School of Education &amp; Human Development after&nbsp;a few&nbsp;years as a classroom teacher.</p> <p>&ldquo;I felt the way to serve the kids better was to have someone in charge that loved them and was going to be an advocate for them,&rdquo; Dries said, adding she loved her four years working as a classroom teacher in Stafford.</p> <p>Prior to taking her current post, she served as a counselor/assistant principal at Stafford Primary School in the Stafford Municipal School District.</p> <p>Her professors at UHV helped prepare her to take on a leadership role, she said.</p> <p>&ldquo;They were really instrumental in giving you the tools and the background you need in this kind of job, and if you had questions, they were really encouraging,&rdquo; she said.</p> <p>The course work also proved to be relevant to her daily duties.</p> <p>&ldquo;The class selection you had to take in order to get your degree was just a perfect match for what you witness in the real world,&rdquo; she said.</p> <p>Dries will start her new role July 25.</p> <p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;re very proud to claim Ms. Dries as one of our graduates,&rdquo; said Mary Natividad, interim dean of the UHV School of Education &amp; Human Development. &ldquo;She&rsquo;s a credit to what someone can accomplish with drive, ambition and a quality education.&rdquo;</p> <p>The UHV School of Education &amp; Human Development offers courses face to face in Sugar Land and Victoria, and many degrees entirely online.
