UHV softball squad named NAIA scholar team
For the third consecutive year, the University of Houston-Victoria softball team has been recognized as a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Scholar Team.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.
The Jaguars finished the 2009-10 academic year with a 3.13 GPA and were among the 857 teams recognized by the NAIA.
At the start of every school year the team sits down to make a list of goals they are determined to accomplish, Jaguars coach Keri Lambeth said. And every year one of the 10 goals is to maintain a GPA of above 3.0.
Weve been fortunate to have student athletes that take their education seriously. Im so very proud of each and every one of these young ladies
The team had three players Claire McGee, Brittany Faas and Tasha Rotramel named 2010 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar Athletes earlier this year for maintaining a GPS of 3.5 or higher.
This honor speaks volumes of how highly our student-athletes take their education, UHV Athletic Director Ashley Walyuchow said. They have not only been a success on the field but in the classroom as well.
The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team was named the 2009-10 NAIA Scholar Team of the Year after posting a 3.82 GPA.
