A two-day workshop is bringing national figures in the world of collegiate education to Victoria.

The University of Houston-Victoria will host a workshop Thursday and Friday about how university education programs can become accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council, one of the most rigorous certifying bodies. The event will bring some of the national leaders of the organization to the Victoria campus.

�The School of Education & Human Development is seeking TEAC accreditation, so we�ll be hosting a workshop for our faculty and faculty from other universities to educate them about the intensive process,� said Jane Fry, UHV education professor and TEAC coordinator.

Leading the event will be Mark LaCelle-Peterson, TEAC vice president; Rebecca Pelton, TEAC vice president of membership; and Melanie Biermann, TEAC vice president for state relations.

In addition to UHV faculty members, representatives from Hardin-Simmons University, Texas Lutheran University, the University of St. Thomas and the University of Houston are expected to attend the event, Fry said.

TEAC accreditation requires aspiring schools to submit an extensive proposal to start the membership process, Fry said. when the brief is accepted by TEAC, schools then collect data for two to three years before receiving a TEAC audit. After the audit, a school is deemed accredited.

The brief includes detailed information about instructional practices, claims about the program goals and program assessment measures, Fry said. After the workshop, Fry will work with UHV�s School of Education & Human Development faculty to prepare the brief for UHV.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St.
