Ortiz picks up 200th coaching win

<p>Lindsey Ortiz, University of Houston-Victoria softball coach, hit another milestone on Feb. 28 when she notched her 200th career coaching win.</p> <p>Ortiz, who is currently 202-102 as the Jaguars&rsquo; head softball coach, earned No. 200 in a 5-3 win over LSU-Alexandria in a Red River Athletic Conference opener for the 2020 season.</p> <p>It was a very successful weekend for Ortiz and the No. 23 Jaguars who swept a three-game series from No. 21 LSUA.</p> <p>Ortiz is in her seventh year as head coach for the Jaguars. She was a member of the Jaguars&rsquo; first collegiate softball team and after two years served as an assistant coach before taking the head coaching reins in 2014.</p> <p>The Jaguars are currently 8-6 on the season and 3-0 in conference play as they prepare to take part in the Gulf Shores Invitational on March 6-8.</p> <p>Along with the three-game sweep (5-3, 12-1, 12-0) over LSUA, the Jaguars have defeated No. 2 Science and Arts of Oklahoma (7-2), Langston University, Panhandle State, and Schreiner University (twice).</p> <p>The Jaguars are scheduled to play Bethel College, No. 18 William Carey, No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett, Keiser University and Central Methodist at the Gulf Shores Invitational, before returning to conference play on March 13 and 14, when they will host Our Lady of the Lake.</p>
