A&M-Victoria prepares for Giving Day
The holiday season is fast approaching, and Texas A&M University-Victoria is preparing for its first Giving Day as a member of The Texas A&M University System.
This year’s national Giving Day is Dec. 2, and the university is kicking off its 10th annual campaign to raise funds to support scholarships and other funds that will promote higher education in the region. The 24-hour-long campaign will open at midnight and continue until 11:59 p.m.
“Giving Day has always been a shining example of how much the Victoria community supports its university and higher education,” said Amber Countis, vice president for advancement and external relations. “We may have a new name this year and are part of a new university system, but our commitment to higher education and serving the needs of our community remains the same. We are appreciative to those who have already shown such an amazing outpouring of support, and we hope this will be another great day of coming together to help Victoria students succeed.”
This year’s campaign is putting particular focus on raising funds for and spreading awareness of the Spirit of the 12th Campus Initiative, which was created to celebrate A&M-Victoria becoming the 12th campus in The Texas A&M University System. These immediate-use funds will be prioritized for student recruitment and retention resources to help the university grow enrollment, retain, and better serve its students.
“As we celebrate our first Giving Day as Texas A&M University-Victoria, we’re reminded that our strength lies in our community,” said Kelsey Norgard, director of alumni relations and annual giving. “When alumni, friends, faculty and staff unite behind our students, we don't just meet goals, we transform futures and build a legacy of excellence for generations to come. Over the past decade of hosting Giving Day, we've seen firsthand how collective support creates scholarships, enhances programs, and opens doors for deserving students who will go on to make a difference in our region and beyond.”
During Giving Day, donation stations will be available across campus and in the community. The tables on campus will be located at University West, University Center, Jaguar Hall and University Commons. In addition, a table will be located at Chick-fil-A – The Crossroads, 714 E. Rio Grande St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Another table will be inside Target, 7608 Zac Lentz Pkwy., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As part of the Giving Day campaign, several community supporters have pledged to make donations in support of the university, including a $12,000 lead donation from Keller Wealth Advisors/Keller & Associates CPAs PLLC. In addition, there will be individual donations from:
- Rachel and David (2012) Faskas
- Mary Virginia Jacobs
- Chick-fil-A Victoria
- A&M-Victoria President Christian Hardigree
- The First State Bank
- Kenneth and Betty Vickers.
