A&M-Victoria hires associate provost of academic quality
The Texas A&M University-Victoria Provost’s Office is pleased to welcome Aimee Shouse as the university’s new associate provost of curriculum and academic quality.
Shouse is joining the university from Tarleton State University, where she served as associate provost and associate vice president for curriculum and faculty affairs, as well as the dean of faculty and as a professor of political science.
“I am very happy to be joining Texas A&M University-Victoria at this exciting time!” Shouse said. “I hope the experience I bring will be a positive resource for both university leadership and faculty, as we build academic programs that serve our students and the region, as well as foster professional development opportunities for faculty and Academic Affairs staff.”
Shouse brings with her a 33-year-long career in faculty and administration leadership. She has a Bachelor of Science in political science from the University of Central Arkansas and a Doctor of Philosophy in political science from Vanderbilt University. In addition, she completed the AASCU’s Becoming a Provost Academy leadership training program in 2023-2024.
Her academic career began in 1992, when she served as an adjunct instructor for Vanderbilt University. The next year, she was hired as an assistant professor of political science at Western Illinois University, where she taught until 2017, attaining the rank of associate professor in 2003 and full professor in 2009. While at WIU, she took on other leadership roles, including department internship coordinator, acting chair of the Department of Political Science and department chair of the Women’s Studies program.
In 2017, she was hired by Southwest Minnesota State University as the dean of the College of Arts, Letters and Sciences. In that role, she supervised 80 full-time faculty members and 40 adjuncts in five academic departments. Her efforts also included maintaining accreditation standards for certain programs, overseeing the university library and working closely with the university president and leadership. She served in that role until 2021, when she was hired into her associate provost role at Tarleton State. In 2023-2024, she also served as the acting dean for the College of Liberal and Fine Arts at Tarleton University.

We look forward to working with Dr. Shouse as we continue building a strong culture within Academic Affairs focused on faculty success and, ultimately, providing our students with a high-quality educational experience.”
In her new role as associate provost, Shouse will work with the deans of the university’s four academic colleges to develop, implement and assess strategic academic program plans, develop new programs, provide strategic leadership, oversee the Center for Teaching and Learning Experience, collaborate with institutional partners and more. Her first day on campus was Sept. 1.
