A&M-Victoria hires operations officer
As Texas A&M University-Victoria prepares for the beginning of the spring semester and continues its efforts to grow enrollment, the university has hired a chief operations officer to help lead the charge.
Kevin Sheehy has joined the university from his previous position as regional vice chancellor of finance and administration at The University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, Florida. In his new role in Victoria, he will bring his expertise in higher education to help oversee the university’s operational efficiency and financial health. His first day was Wednesday, Jan. 14.
“Kevin Sheehy has a long, accomplished history of leadership in higher education and the private sector,” A&M-Victoria President Christian Hardigree said. “I look forward to working with him and bringing his expertise to bear in our mission of building Texas A&M University-Victoria into a thriving, community-focused university. There’s so much to do, and Kevin is exactly who we need to help us move in the right direction.”
Sheehy brings 36 years of experience in both private business and higher education leadership to Victoria. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Duquesne University in 1993, followed by a Master of Business Administration from Waynesburg University in 2004. He began his career in 1990 as a district automotive accountant for the United Parcel Service in Pittsburgh, Penn. Over the next 13 years, he moved up through various positions, including district accounts receivable and collection supervisor, finance supervisor and eventually accounting supervisor.
In July 2003, he shifted away from the private sector and became the manager of payment processing for the University of Pittsburgh, where he managed a team of more than 20 people who were responsible for the university’s transactions of more than $600 million. After four years, he was promoted to the university’s assistant vice chancellor of auxiliary operations and finance. In that role, he provided oversight to the university’s financial operations and oversaw the Business, Hospitality and Auxiliary Services group of the university, encompassing areas such as housing, food service, marketing and communications, information technology, human resources, parking, transportation and more.
In April 2024, Sheehy became the regional vice chancellor of finance and administration for the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, Fla. In that role, he oversaw financial operations for the university including tuition, contracts and grants, capital project funds and budget creation. He also supervised several departments including facilities, human resources, fleet services, mailing services, information technology, university police, parking, emergency management, events, accounting, purchasing and more.
