A&M-Victoria students spend weekend volunteering
On Saturday, Texas A&M University-Victoria students made a strong community impact with two Victoria nonprofits. A group of 25 students along with staff members joined Keep Victoria Beautiful’s Fall Sweep: Litter Cleanup event. The university volunteers, top, picked up several bags full of trash along the Zac Lentz Parkway between McCoy’s and Prosperity Bank. Another group of 27 students volunteered at the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent that morning, bottom. The students spent the morning putting together and labeling bags of food, handling rice, cleaning the warehouse, checking and bagging sodas, and going through surveys. The volunteering at the Food Bank will add to the university’s points total in the Hunger Heroes competition led by the Food Bank throughout the month of September.
