“Affordability is central to the mission of A&M-Victoria,” said Daya Nand, associate professor and director of the cybersecurity program. “We are proud to receive this ranking because it confirms and validates our values and commitment to quality instruction and affordability for our students.”

In addition to considering the programs’ affordability, the ranking also included programs that feature Center of Academic Excellence designations in cybersecurity, curriculum alignment with industry certifications, state-of-the-art facilities and excellent online learning options.

A&M-Victoria’s program offers both in-person and online options. The classroom instruction focuses on real-world scenarios, such as the recent data breach experienced by Target, Nand said.

“Cybersecurity is evolving very rapidly, especially with the rise of AI,” he said. “We’re constantly adjusting our focus to make sure we’re keeping up with the needs of the industry across the world. In our classes, we study current, real-world scenarios, how they happened, what could have prevented them, and how to address breaches once they occur.”

The main purpose of the program is to ensure that students are workforce-ready, Nand said. The university plans to create a strong workforce pipeline in cybersecurity and all of its programs to serve the needs of industries in the region and across the nation.
