Students can apply with no fee during free application week

Next week, Texas residents will have the opportunity to apply for undergraduate admission to Texas A&M University-Victoria for free.

Free College Application Week is a statewide program intended to encourage Texans to apply to public colleges and universities at no cost. This year, students who are Texas residents can submit an application with no fees during the week of Oct. 12-18.

“Higher education is a game-changer in helping students achieve success in their future careers, and our goal is to make it as accessible as possible,” said Michael Sanders A&M-Victoria vice president for enrollment management. “Texas’ Free Application Week is a tool that can help our future students take their first step toward earning a degree without worrying about the initial cost of submitting an application.”

To take advantage of the opportunity, students should fill out an application for Texas A&M University-Victoria at ApplyTexas.org. Once the application is submitted, an admissions recruiter will waive the application fee for the student and help them navigate the admissions process. Students must have their complete application submitted by the end of the week to receive the fee waiver.

A&M-Victoria’s application processing fee is $25, one of the lowest fees in the state. For students who are not sure if they want to pursue college or who come from low-income households, even a small fee can be a deterrent, said Monica Brown, admissions recruiter. Having a full week to put together an application and submitting it for free can make all the difference, she said.

“We believe the opportunity to pursue a college degree should reach every student,” Brown said. “Free application week removes one of the barriers students may face when considering college and gives them the opportunity to take the first step toward their future at no cost. We hope students will take advantage of this opportunity and take the steps to see what it is like being a part of the Jaguar Family.”
