NEW STUDENTS

Step 1.

Apply for admission and be accepted to Texas A&M University-Victoria. Students must be enrolled and registered for classes before applying with Accessibility & Accommodations.

Step 2.

The student must self-identify by contacting Accessibility & Accommodations. It is your responsibility to initiate this process. Federal law requires that any action regarding access to services, seeking special assistance, or providing reasonable accommodations must be initiated by the student.

Step 3.

Complete the AIM online New Student Application for accommodations and services.

Step 4.

Provide documentation for the disability.   A verification form will be provided for the qualified professional evaluator to complete and return directly to Accessibility & Accommodations by fax (361) 580-5504. Other types of documentation, such as a Special Education IEP, 504 information, or professional assessment reports may be uploaded to AIM or sent directly to Accessibility & Accommodations by the student.

Step 5.

The Accessibility & Accommodations Manager will review the student’s application and documentation, then schedule an intake interview to begin the interactive process. During this meeting-held in person, by phone, or electronically- the Manager and the student will discuss reasonable accommodations and address any additional information needed,

Step 6.

The Accessibility & Accommodations Manager will determine reasonable accommodations on a case-by-case basis, based on documentation and information provided by the student, and will review the approved accommodations with the student.

Step 7.

An Accommodation Notification Letter will be prepared for each course in the initial semester and sent to the course instructor and student by e-mail through AIM. The letter will contain all approved accommodations appropriate for the instructional mode of the course. Accommodations become effective on the date the letters are issued and remain in effect for the duration of the current semester.  The student must request letters each semester that they wish to use accommodations.

Step 8.

Students are encouraged to communicate with each instructor either in person, by phone, or by email to discuss implementation of their approved accommodations.  Any modification to the approved accommodations must be reviewed and authorized by the Accessibility & Accommodations Manager; instructors and students may not independently alter the approved accommodations.
