Top Experiences at Texas A&M University-Victoria
Future students and community members often ask us about the best things to do at Texas A&M University-Victoria. You asked—our student body answered! We invited current students to vote on what they consider the top ten experiences at A&M-Victroia. Here’s what they chose:
- Jaguar Journey - Welcome Weekend
At Jaguar Journey, new students are introduced to campus life at A&M-Victoria. The weekend is packed with activities and informational sessions to let students know about services intended to help them succeed. Jaguar Journey is held in Victoria the weekend before classes begin for the fall semester, and teaches new students what it means to be a Jaguar! This annual tradition was voted as the best overall experience at A&M-Victoria. - Family Weekend
A&M-Victoria Family Weekend gives students and their families the opportunity to connect with the university. It is held each fall semester in conjunction with our A&M-Victoria Soccer teams. The weekend provides families ample interaction with A&M-Victoria faculty and staff, the university athletics program, and the Victoria community in effort to build a sense of pride and support for A&M-Victoria students. - Homecoming
Homecoming Week occurs each spring semester in conjunction with our A&M-Victoria Jaguars home baseball series. During this week, a number of exciting events take place. Past activities have included: Student Organization Carnival, Talent Show, Alumni Banquet, Jog for jaX 5K, and the crowning of our Homecoming Jaguar Royals. Homecoming is always one of the most exciting times of the year at A&M-Victoria. - Haunted Hall
Each fall semester during Halloween, the Jaguar Activities Board (JAB) hosts Haunted Hall, a student led haunted house attraction. Haunted Hall is free and open to the public to attend and is held on the A&M-Victoria campus. This production is entirely student run, with over 40 individuals volunteering their time to spook their peers and community members. Hundreds of people attend this event annually, and it is always an experience to remember! - ROAR Leadership Conference
The ROAR Leadership Conference is a day-long conference that allows students to attend presentations designed to enhance their leadership skills. The conference is of no cost to participants and encourages students to interact with not only their peers, but also the presenters. Individuals always walk away from this conference having enhanced their marketable skills and gained tools to become better student leaders on campus. - Jaguar Activities Board Road Trips
Throughout each academic school year, JAB takes students out of town on a variety of different road trips. These road trips have become a central part of student involvement on campus. Past road trips have included going to Fiesta Texas, Football games, and Schlitterbahn. Students have a blast experiencing these attractions and look forward to attending each time they become available. - Alternative Spring Break
Each March during Spring Break, over a dozen students volunteer their time to help out communities in need during our Alternative Spring Break trip (ASB). ASB is a weeklong experience that provides individuals the opportunity to give back through service work and to learn more about other cultures. This all expenses paid trip takes students to locations in Mississippi, Louisiana, and here in Texas. - Splatterbeat
Splatterbeat is held annually during the first week of school, part of the A&M-Victoria Weeks of Welcome. During this event, students listen to music from a DJ while banging drums covered with paint, similar to the world-famous Blue Man Group. This event is a stress reliever for students. They walk away with a free t-shirt covered in paint, and an experience they remember for the entirety of the school year. - Riverside Park
The historic Riverside Park is an integral part of the City of Victoria and A&M-Victoria. In fact, it is one of the main design elements on the Jaguar Class Ring. Throughout the year, students can be seen kayaking the Guadalupe River on an Outdoor Adventures trip, playing disc golf during an intramural sports competition, or visiting our live school mascot, jaX, in the Texas Zoo. Riverside Park has many activities for students to engage in, which is why it was voted as one of our top ten experiences.
