About First Appointments

At times, the initial consultation and evaluation process may require more than one visit in order to determine the best way to proceed with services. The Counseling Center reserves the right to determine if we have adequate resources and expertise to address your particular treatment needs. Most of the time we will be able to meet your needs. However, if your needs cannot adequately and ethically be met by our current resources, our team will work with you to secure an appropriate referral when necessary.

Missed Appointment Policy

A 24-hour notification of rescheduling or cancellation allows us to schedule other students who may need services. If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please contact us a minimum of 24 hours in advance of your appointment.

Our Missed Appointment Policy limits the number of no-shows, reschedules, or cancellations a student is allowed before individual therapy services are temporarily suspended. A student who misses an appointment without notifying the Counseling Center is considered a no-show.

Two consecutive no-shows or a total of any three during a semester can generate a temporary suspension from individual therapy services for a period of six weeks from the time of the last no-show.
Two consecutive reschedules or cancellations or any three during a semester can generate a temporary suspension from individual therapy services for a period of four weeks from the time of the last appointment.

If a student is temporarily suspended from individual therapy services twice in their collegiate career, they may permanently lose access to these services. If a student permanently loses access to individual therapy services, they may appeal this decision in writing to the Counseling Center director.

Students who have been suspended from individual therapy services will be provided with the appropriate referral resources to utilize during their temporary suspension status. The Counseling Center is not responsible for any fees incurred from referrals. Regardless of suspension status, all students may continue to use and access the Counseling Center's case management, crisis, and self-help services.
