A&M-Victoria A.I. Policy
The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Texas A&M University-Victoria should adhere to the same ethical principles used in other aspects of education, research, and operations, including privacy, fairness, transparency, bias, and accountability. AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot may be used only as permitted for a particular assignment. Unless otherwise stated, students may use AI to brainstorm ideas, organize information, generate outlines, identify sources for further investigation, and/or receive feedback on grammar and writing. Students will remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all submitted work.
AI may not be used to complete assignments on a student's behalf or to generate substantive portions of work that are submitted for academic credit unless explicitly authorized by the instructor. When AI is used, students may be required to disclose how it was used, provide prompts or conversation histories, and explain how the final submission reflects their own understanding and work.
The instructor may ask students to discuss their work, submit drafts or notes, or otherwise demonstrate authorship. Failure to accurately disclose unauthorized AI use or submitting AI generated work as one’s own may constitute academic misconduct under university policy.
Overall, AI should enhance, not replace your learning. Developing the ability to analyze information, solve problems, and communicate your own ideas is essential to your education and future career. While AI can be a valuable tool, relying on it to do your thinking ultimately limits the very skills you are here to develop.
