Understanding Transcript Types

Official Transcript
An official transcript is the institution-certified academic record of a student’s coursework and grades. Official transcripts include appropriate security features and authentication and are issued by the university or its authorized agent. Official transcripts are transmitted directly from the issuing institution to the designated recipient to ensure document integrity.

Official transcripts may also be issued to the student in a sealed envelope bearing the institution’s authentication. Transcripts remain official only if the envelope is unopened and intact. Electronic transcripts are considered official only when transmitted through a secure method and remain unaltered.

Official transcripts ordered through the university’s authorized vendor, Parchment, are considered official.

Unofficial Transcript
An unofficial transcript is a copy of a student’s academic record that is not certified as official. Unofficial transcripts are typically issued directly to the student and may not include security features or institutional authentication. Unofficial transcripts are intended for informational or internal use only and may not be accepted for official purposes.

The university requires official transcripts for admissions, transfer credit evaluation, and other official purposes.
